Audience Key Terms

Demographic Data: Statistical characteristics of the population which include: social class, gender and age (usually many more however for media we use these). The data is mainly used in sociology, marketing and public policy. Often referred to as hard data.

Psychographic Data: Something which separates individuals from one another such as the different tastes, an example of this would be if person A likes dark chocolate and person B likes milk chocolate.

Qualitative Data: Usually when a person/group has been interviewed they would respond with a detail descriptive answer which can be observed however not measured. Qualitative is quality.

Quantitative Data: Mainly numbers which enable the interviewee to measure the answers they receive from questions however cannot observe like they would be able to with qualitative data. Quantitative is quantity.
